Our History

The Beginning

How EMSA was formed

The Economics and Management Students Association (EMSA) brings together three BSc programmes under the Department of Management, Faculty of Integrated Management Sciences at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT): BSc Logistics and Transport Management, BSc Economics and Industrial Organisations, and the newest member of the family, BSc Finance and Data Science.

Before EMSA existed, a founding committee of 20 students — 10 from Logistics and 10 from Economics — worked alongside four lecturers to draft the association’s constitution. With the support of those patrons and HOD Dr. Kamasa, the association was formally established in July 2023.

On 28 August 2023, EMSA held its first executive elections, electing and appointing the leaders who would become the inaugural board.
