Last updated: 17 May 2026

1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your membership in and use of the services provided by the Economics and Management Students Association (EMSA) (“EMSA”, “we”, “us”), including this website and member portal at emsa-umat.org. By registering for membership or using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

2. Eligibility

EMSA membership is open to:

  • Students currently enrolled in a programme within the Faculty of Integrated Management Science (FIMS) at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa.
  • Alumni who have graduated from a FIMS programme at UMaT.

Membership applications are subject to review and approval by the EMSA executive team. EMSA reserves the right to decline or revoke membership at its discretion, in accordance with its constitution.

3. Account Responsibilities

When you register, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information about yourself.
  • Keep your login credentials confidential and not share your account with others.
  • Notify us immediately at contact@emsa-umat.org if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
  • Be responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

4. Membership Dues

Active student members are required to pay dues according to the fee schedule set by the EMSA executive for each academic year. By initiating a dues payment:

  • You authorise EMSA to process the stated amount via Paystack.
  • Payments are processed in Ghanaian Cedis (GHS) and are non-refundable except where EMSA is unable to provide the associated membership benefits.
  • Failure to pay dues by the stated deadline may result in suspension of access to member-only resources and services.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the platform for any unlawful purpose or in violation of UMaT’s student code of conduct.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other accounts, the admin portal, or any part of the infrastructure.
  • Upload or transmit content that is defamatory, obscene, threatening, or infringes third-party intellectual property rights.
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to extract data from the platform without prior written permission from EMSA.
  • Impersonate EMSA officials or other members.

6. Intellectual Property

All content published on this website, including text, graphics, logos, and documents, is the property of EMSA or used with permission, and is protected by copyright. You may share or reproduce EMSA content for non-commercial, educational purposes provided you credit EMSA and include a link back to this website. Commercial use of EMSA content requires prior written consent.

7. Resources and Downloads

Member resources (lecture notes, past papers, industry guides) are provided for the personal, non-commercial use of EMSA members only. Redistributing these materials to non-members or uploading them to third-party platforms without permission is prohibited.

8. Alumni Directory

Alumni who enable their directory listing consent to their name, programme, graduation year, and professional information being publicly visible on the EMSA alumni directory. You may disable your listing at any time from your dashboard. EMSA does not share directory data with third parties for commercial purposes.

9. Events

Event registrations are subject to capacity limits. EMSA reserves the right to cancel or reschedule events. Paid event fees will be refunded in the event of a cancellation by EMSA. No-shows for free events are noted and may affect future registration eligibility for popular events.

10. Limitation of Liability

EMSA is a voluntary student association. To the fullest extent permitted by Ghanaian law, EMSA, its officers, and members shall not be liable for:

  • Any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from use of this website or member services.
  • Temporary unavailability of the platform due to maintenance, infrastructure failure, or events outside our control.
  • Loss of data resulting from technical failures, provided we have implemented reasonable security measures.

Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms shall not exceed the amount of dues paid by you in the current academic year.

11. Termination

EMSA may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, engage in misconduct, or cease to meet membership eligibility requirements. You may close your account at any time by contacting us. Termination does not entitle you to a refund of dues already paid.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ghana. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Ghana. Before resorting to formal legal proceedings, both parties agree to attempt resolution through good-faith negotiation.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify members by email at least 14 days before material changes take effect and post the updated Terms on this page. Continued use of our services after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

14. Contact

For questions about these Terms, contact the EMSA Executive at: contact@emsa-umat.org

These Terms should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal data.
